Restore Historical Shotgun Homes

Hall of Fame Properties Inc. is partnering with the Winston-Salem Triad Cultural Arts to restore two shotgun houses in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The houses are in the historic Happy Hill community, the first planned African American neighborhood in Winston-Salem dating back to 1872. It was once the center of African American life in the city. The neighborhood still exists and stands as a symbol of the pride and dignity of former and current residents. The goal is to lift the shotgun houses out of obscurity and herald their architectural style as an iconic symbol of African American freedom!

Hall of Fame Properties Inc. will lead the effort to relocate the houses near the entrance of the Happy Hill neighborhood.  We'll then begin restoring the structures with the help of volunteers from the community. We decided to connect the houses by creating a pass-through which will make access between the two structures easier for patrons and staff. The restored shotgun houses will be used as a historical museum that will reflect the deep pride and great tradition of the Happy Hill community.
